Casting do "The Dream of Rosa Luxemburg"

Ursa Maior is a professional company since 2002. All the performances I directed in these seven years sprang from a big passion and the necessity to talk about something in that particular moment.

Without have planned it, the leit motiv became a fil rose.

My necessity is now to direct a performance about Rosa Luxemburg, an international performance to talk about internationalism and antimilitarism, through this little fragile character.

The starting text will be "The red rose. The dream of Rosa Luxemburg", an exciting text written by Vanna Cercen for young people and edited by one of the most important Italian editors: Einaudi.

The text will be elaborated for theatre, maybe Mrs Cercen will help in the writing out.

The project has already started with the research of a Polish actress to prepare the performance at least in two languages: Polish, Rosa Luxemburg's mother-tongue, and Italian.

The actress will play some of the most relevant periods of the woman's story and of History itself. On the stage, with her, just voices, projected shadows, slim images of the most important people in Rosa's life. Rosa will change herself from a little girl into a woman. Only the character of Rosa's Mother, a dumb one, will maybe be on the stage in the flesh.

If we try to analize the historical period we are living, we can find a lot of analogies with the period when Europe was hatching the First World War. Rosa Luxemburg was dreaming a world without oppression, war, racial and gender discrimination.

To bring this woman on the stage means to me to say that this dream is something we can still believe in.
